As those of us in the ‘civilized world’ witness the lawyers, business people, and bureaucrats do battle over the Saw Stop Technology, those in the developing world continue to make do happily with the tools available to them. This photo, which I took a couple of weeks ago at a small cabinet shop in rural Panama, was full of happy workers, all of whom still sported a full set of 10 digits, in spite of the obvious safety-shortcomings of their table saw.

Good shop lighting too

I hate to see them not used goggles or face shields though. I have seen the results of over looking that.
I had a friend who used to travel to Senegal a couple of times a year. She said her welder guy over there didn't use a hood or eye protection while arc welding (try that sometime). I said I had a drawer full of old unused lenses for my welding helmet that my Dad left behind. She could take them back with her.
She said they wouldn't use them.
Way more infeed area on that saw too. Could be they know things we don't.
