That was interesting- I closed the window for that site and had another site staring me in the face, all about communism.
all about communism.
I thought it was just me!

Sorry ... REALLY
I had nothing to do with it... I have a pop-up blocker so never saw it...
Man, that site's trouble. My pop-up blocker nixed the first one, but not the second one. I boycott places like that. I just deleted it from my favorites.

No problems here, but then...i use Mozilla. <G>
Splintie, I tried Mozzila Firefox too, but although it blocked the first pop-up, the second (a pop-under) still showed up. Did you surf around a bit?? Is there some setting that I need to check??forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
forestgirl:<<I tried Mozzila Firefox too, but although it blocked the first pop-up, the second (a pop-under) still showed up. You can check your settings to make sure you are blocking popups (pop unders are handled the same way). Go to Edit->Preferences->Web Features. Make sure that the "Block Popups" is checked. You also need to make sure that there are no sites in the "Allowed Sites" list (the button to set them is to the right of the "Block Popups" window). If that is done, you shouldn't see any popups. I have Microsofts AntiSpyware (free) and Pop-Up stopper. I rarely get any pop-up's except sometmes the Flash stuff..
Hi, it was under Tools-->Options-->Web Features. Blocking was already checked. Nothing in Allowed list. While I was there I unchecked "Allow web sites to install software" and I check "for the originating web site only" under "Load images."forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
With the Mozilla suite, my headings are a bit different than you and CG describe, but i can set my pop-up controls either with Edit>Preferences>Privacy and Security, or do a short-cut version under Tools.I've tried that site a few times, still no pop-ups or unders. Sometimes i have to enable pop-ups, like on travel reservation sites, but it's always very clear what the problem is when i can't access a feature--they tell ME--and i enable that one. Oddly enough, though, when i checked my approved sites, i did have a doubleclick one in there i nixed 'by hand'. Not sure it had anything to do with the site in Post #1, however. Sorry not to be more help.
>> Hi, it was under Tools-->Options-->Web Features. >>Yep, that is where it is. Like a bonehead, I was looking at preferences for Thunderbird (the email client) instead of for Firefox. For some reason I thought they would use the same layout for managing the same features between the clients since the same group writes both. What a foolish assumption. I should know better, I write software for a living!<< Blocking was already checked. Nothing in Allowed list.>>Then the settings were correct for blocking popups. Why one slipped through is a real mystery. If you go there again, do you see the pop up again? <<While I was there I unchecked "Allow web sites to install software" and I check "for the originating web site only" under "Load images." >>Excellent things to do! Just remember to change it back if briefly if you do want to install software by the web. -- CGMeasure with a micrometer. Mark with chalk. Cut with an axe.

I just used an alternate email account to send the owner of that site a note. In my note, I told him I was very interested in the plans he has to sell but I will not do business at a site where all these pop-ups/unders are constantly appearing.
I suspect every visit presents high risk of acquiring spyware on my system. I'm well protected against spyware and have what's usually a very reliable pop-up blocker, but whether I used IE or Mozilla, there were still pop-unders.
If anyone else is interested in emailing, a small barrage might not hurt. Use a alternate email address to protect your main account.

Froest! Geeeeeeeee.. I just saw the place.. Thought itwas cool.. I would think the guy dosen't even know about the POP-UPS.. Just a place for his stuff.. Maybe?
I really didden't mean to stur up all this.... Just thought it was sort of nice!
Hi Will, I wasn't dumpin' on the guy personally. He needs to know what people have to endure to visit his web site. If he's smart, he'll switch to a hosting company that doesn't bombard people with junk like that. Quite a few people will go for "free" hosting or incredibly cheap hosting, not realizing that their customers pay the price via pop-ups and such. I have no idea if that's the situation here, but I wouldn't be surprised.
It would be pretty silly, really, because a good hosting arrangement wouldn't cost more than about $20/month, easily recaptured by an increased number of return visitors.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)

Jamie,
My host charged me $120 for domain registration and two years of hosting service, including my own IP and 1000 e-mail addresses. For $4.95/month, I get way more storage than I need and 5GB bandwidth. There are no pop-ups or any kind of ads. I've been up since Last August with no problems. Check them out via my site or the link under my signature.
