I just finished making a zero clearance throat plate for my regular 10 ” blade. Trimmed it to fit and then raised the spinning blade up through the plate. Worked great. I used a good quality plywood. Can I do the same thing for my dado blade. Its an 8″ blade and I want to raise the spinning blade up through the plate if that can be done safely and if this is an appropriate way to do it.

Frank,
You can do it the same way,but I would suggest clamping a 2x4 over the insert before raising the blade.

Or simply lock your fence over the non cutting area of the throat plate, making sure it provides positive pressure down on the plate.
