I am a beginner woodworker. I am looking for fine tiger maple to build a porringer dining room table (seating for 10 w/end leafs). I live in Connecticut but i am having trouble finding retailers within driving distance. Can anyone suggest a dealer in Connecticut or on the internet that is reputable? Also what grade of wood should I buy and what thickness. Thank you for any help Mark [email protected] |

Mark,
Try http://www.woodfinder.net for a supplier nearest you.
Personally, I would use veneer instead of solid stock; grain matching would be less problematic not to mention a more efficient use of the resource. FWIW.

Great quality maple and cherry.

Call Lou Irion at Irion Lumber. Do an internet search. Get your wallet ready, but it's worth every dime.
Depending on where you are in Connecticut, you can shop at Condon Lumber in Stormville, NY 845-221-8966. This is the same company you usually see as a White Plains address, but this is a mill and warehouse. Very nice people to deal with.
SMark,
Winterwoods Forest Specialities has nice figured wide boards, curly and birdseye maple, small user friendly company , mail order. If you like call me I work there.
