The one annoyance I’ve had with Porter Cable router bushings is that it can be difficult to get them tight enough to hold properly. Tightening the ring nut at times will simply spin the bushing in the router’s base plate. When digging through a box of allen wrenches for a totally unrelated project, I came across a small spanner wrench. Not what its original intended purpose was, but it struck me that with a very slight modification to a router bushing I could use the spanner wrench to hold it stationary while tightening the ring nut, or even use it to turn the bushing while holding the ring nut stationary. A couple of small holes into the flat surface of the router bushing and now I can easily tighten the router bushings so they won’t loosen as I’m using the router.

Spanner
Good idea, I suggested the same idea to a bushing mfg. about a year ago for the same thing. No interest, lost my Million$$$$$$$ idea.
Sorry, Bruce, I patented the idea two years ago as SpinStop. My congressman is introducing legislation to make it mandatory on all routers to avoid nasty accidents caused by loose guide bushings. ;-)
Oh No
More safety mandates and government intrusion. My only intent was for ease of use, and better tightening.
How will this legislation impact tool manufactures in the future ?? Think about the Riobi bench saw and the litigation going on there. (non-sawstop)
Think of the Non Porter/Cable type bushings. Old Sears snap ins, Triton, Festool, Bosch. Will they be sued in the future for being noncompliant bushings ??
Are you in favor of manditory saw stop or own one ??
No offense intended.
Uh, Bruce . . .
. . . you missed the winkie.
In my view, the Ryobi decision should be reversed, and there is absolutely no need for madated flesh-sensing technology on saws.
Phhew
What a relief !! Sure wish we could type with inflection and body language !! Missed the ;-)
Guess we have to learn the kids texting methods ;-)
Good job recycling an old pin wrench. They are often used for things that sit flush in a recessed area, such as retainers for wheel bearings on a motorcycle.
