I have just finished making a tilt-top table following the plans in the December 2004 issue of FW and am now wondering what the purpose of having a tilting top was. It doesn’t seem to take up less floor space with the top in a vertical position so I was wondering if there was some other reason for this feature.
Perhaps I should have asked this question before making it but it is a lovely piece of furniture!
Thank you.

Coincidently I happened to watch NYW this afternoon where Norm was making a tilt top table. He happened to mention something like 'most people kept the table top tilted up to display the beautiful surface and table edge curves than pulled the table out and flipped the top down when they needed to use it'. If he's right, it was more for aesthetics than anything else.
If you build it - he will come.
