I recently saw on an episode of This Old House Classics timber frame construction where the framers where using electric hand planers that were 8 to 16 (?) inches wide. I’ve done the ususal searches for them with no results. Anyone have any info on these tools? They’d be a great tool for some of my restoration work. Thanks.

Rick,
WOW! There nice looking tools, but Jeeeesh! You can buy a PM table saw with a sliding and still have enough left for 3 or 4 Forrest blades. The ROI on this one would be so far out there I can't justify it. How do you like using them? Are they hard on your hands? I have a Makita now which I'm not fond of, but the 6 inch of their's is looking pretty good now! lol
I appreciate the links. Mafel's a new tool line to me. Why don't you tell us about them?

Don, Come to think of it I haven't tried one yet. I'd venture they are mostly heavy. I'll try one this week. We also have the mortisers and 16" circular saws. I do purchasing, research and maintain the machines and tools so I don't have to use them for the most part. I actually spend quite a bit of time reading woodworking and industrial supply catalogs and surfing the web for information.

Rick,
Please do. I've never used one either and someones feedback would be good to hear. I've used the 16" ich saws a few times also. The weight aside, it takes about 2 seconds to know you are not using a 7 1/4" saw! lol Yep, there not the same are they?
