Hello everyone,
I am not exactly 100% new to woodworking, but I will say I’m an amateur for sure. Anyway, my dillema is this. A friend of mine recently had someone build a wooden fence for him and the guy he hired bought a bunch of wood that my friend didn’t like because it was still too rough and unfinished. This handyman he hired had no idea how to mill each piece so he just went out at bought all new milled 2x2s at his own expense.
Well, my friend now had all these rough 2x2s sitting around and he asked me if I wanted them. I said heck yeah. I want to use them to build a wood privacy screen at the top of the masonry block walls separating me and my neighbors. This will give me more privacy and keep me from staring at the mountains of crap two of my neighbors have stacked in their yards.
So, the question is, how do I mill this wood? They’re all 2x2x16′ Rough Exposed Patio GDF (not sure what that even is). Most are bent, warped, or just nasty. The tools I have are a table saw, a 4-1/8″ jointer, a router, a jig saw, and a miter saw. Hand tools as well.
I was thinking of first cutting the long pieces to 8′ to make it easier to work with, then running it throught the jointer. Then the table saw. What do you guys think. Here are some pics of the pieces that give you a good example of one piece (I’ve set it next to a stratight piece of wood that I had. You can see how it jagged it is. I’ve also taken a pic of the tag so you can see what kind of wood it is.
Thanks for your help everyone,
Danny
