I’m in the market for a front vise. Has anyone used the Wilton 63144 Heavy Duty Woodworking Vise?
What vise would you recommend? I’m left handed, but I don’t think that makes much difference.
I’d rather buy a vise that is not made in China, (I’m tired of the poor quality and flimsey design of the junk being foisted on us.)
Thanks.

northhouguy,
I'm left handed too but set up the vise on the left side...that was probably a mistake because the racking forces are intensified. I bought the Jorgenson because it's the only one I could touch and examine, quick release, wooden handle...so far pretty good.
I used a Record vise for years, but it twisted a little. It was a small model. Recently I build Mr. Klausz and Mr. Frid type of benches. The vise works great, and the workbench screw (german, czech, spanish) is cheap, and brigs a lot of holding power without marring the wood. You can also hold irregular shaped pieces. Due the lack of guides in the middle of the vise, you can hold very large pieces, like a door. for the same reason, It serve very well to scribe and cut dovetails drawers.
I also am in the process of building a Frank Klausz style bench for the reasons given by mahogany. I just purchased the shoulder vice screw assembly today, made in Austria, for $49.99 plus tax. The quality of the machining looks good, but not excellent, and the fit and finish are good also.I have chosen this style of vice for the reasons previously stated and this was after I purchased two unused Record 52 1/2 D which now reside in my garage still in their boxes.
