April 1912 – H.M.S. TITANIC sinks … with beautifull and relaxing CHAISE LOUNGE on the deck.
This chairs where made with nicely curved wooden pieces and had a five pointed star (logo of the White Star line) engraved in the top of the back.
Who knows where to find building plans of this historical but very actual piece of furniture ? What about the style ?

There is another thread in this same topic that says the plans were in a recent Popular woodworking. I saw it and the chair is very elegant.

*Plans were in the July 1999 issue of Popular Woodworking. The write up on construction was lacking detail and the plans needed to be enlarged 200%. I had mine done at Kinko's for about $4.00.Some of the curved pieces like the back slats were quite thin and instructions called for cutting them out on the band saw. Although I havn't started on this project, I was wondering if it might be better to make a plexiglass pattern and then cut out the pieces on a router table using the plexiglass pattern and a straight bit with a pattern guide. Has anyone out there had experience using this method? Would appreciate your comments either here or direct at [email protected]

*I built 5 of these chairs from plans in a very old issue of "Poplar Mechanics" magazine The curved slats are quite thin.I bandsawed mine from stock planed to the thickness of the slat width.Several slats can be made from an 8" wide block.Saw the BACK side first.Make the finish cut with your router setup.Lay out the slat thickness and saw proud of the line.Make a fixture similar to your router jig and you can sand to final thickness with a Robo Sanding drum with bottom bearing.I considered laminating the slats, but with so many to make,I opted for the bandsaw method.Good luck. They have plans and the hardware for Titanic deck chairs.

That's a beautiful design (at Rockler), but the hardware's $$$$$! $89 for a set of hardware. Custom made I guess.

The plans for the 5 chairs that I made were in the July 1985 issue of Popular Mechanics magazine. I made the hardware in the shop from sheet brass. ¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬PAT¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬
The plans where in popular Woodworking July 1999 #109. I have a extra copy for sell if anyone is looking.
