I have a old Fulton #3711 plane I broke the screw that hold the tote down. I can’t fine the tap any were to repair it. I can have one made for $140.00. I try MSC no good,e-bay no good, I try the UK No good.I try USA tap& die Co.no good. I guess I will put a 12×24 in it place. it took me one week to find out the size was, I had nothing to go on just that it was 20 threads per inch. I found out this size was uesd in the 1890 to 1950 then change to the 12×24. So if you know or don’t know how old your plane is, now you know the size is one of two size before 1950 12×20 and after 1950 it is12x24. If any one has info on this please let me know.
thank you
Jim

Jim,
How will a tap help you to repair a broken screw ?
Were you just wanting to know the thread size ?
Do you mean a die?
Is there damage to the hole the screw threads into ?
Is the end of the screw broken off in the hole ? If so you won't need a tap to fix that. Maybe a small drill ( preferably a reverse spiraling drill will unscrew the hunk once it gets a bite ) if not add an easy out. Can probably just unscrew the broken part out of the hole without much effort.
You may want to drill the hole slightly larger using the appropriate "tap drill" size for the next size larger available tote screw or similar. Then tap the hole to that size using an inexpensive tap. You probably will need to use what is called a "bottoming tap" once you get the thread started with a "starting tap". Use the bottoming tap if the hole is a shallow blind hole that does not go clear through.
Please elaborate.

Have you tried: http://www.e-taps.com They might not have your correct size but it is worth a try.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ... maybe someone should tell Mel to come over and liven things up.
>Mel< . . . Now lets not play with fire.
Hell I would settle for an acknowledgement of our attempt to help him from the OP.
Are you thinking of "The Cutting Edge Company " for the supplier ? They have done well for me on some fasteners and they carried the new Jet parallel clamps first a few years ago when I couldn't get them from other suppliers..
there are quite a few that never respond
to answers. you may have given it to them and they do not need you any more. this internet is a faceless reality.
this was basically his last resort for an answer to find one with out having to loosen his pursestrings. he was just on a fishing expedition and I doubt that you will ever see his name here again

There's a major industrial tool catalog out there that carries the 12-20 taps but I can't remember who. I bought a couple of the taps a few years ago. Sorry I can't remember but the tap is available.
