Let’s start with my favorite tip… Make sure you have a First Aid kit in your shop. Check the expiration date on any ointments in the kit. Be sure they are fresh. Now, mount the kit in a place where it is easy to get to and will not be buried beneath a pile of wood and tools. Place ‘todays’ date on the outside of the kit and check it twice a year to make sure it is fully stocked and the ‘meds’ are fresh. SawdustSteve

Right up there with the first aid kit is the fire extinguisher. In case anyone forgot - wood is combustible and sawdust is flammable.
Right on Rick , add to it , make sure your extingusher is certified either yearly or is in compliance with your area , here certified yearly is required by the fire dept codes . I have several placed in the shop , all within easy reach .

Another thing as recommended by my fire extinguisher supplier don't purchase a plastic valved fire extinguisher & expect it to work when you need it. Plastic has a way of deteriorating & when it does it shrinks & will let the pressure drop.
Also if you can put the fire out with CO2 as a first line of defense do so but do have an ABC fire extinguisher on hand ready to use too. Reason an ABC extinguisher not only gets in to everything but is corrosive when it gets into your motors & tool mechanics
Good, better, best never let it rest until your good is better & your better best.
A friend who sells fire extinguishers tell me to turn upside down and use a rubber mallet on the bottom every 6 months to loosen up the mix.1 - measure the board twice, 2 - cut it once, 3 - measure the space where it is supposed to go 4 - get a new board and go back to step 1
