See the thread on toolboxes.
My "tool cabinet" consists of piles on the workbench - lol.
Actually, I have one of those roll around mechanics tool chests with lots of drawers and find it almost perfect for hand tools.
My "tool cabinet" consists of piles on the workbench ...
..roll around mechanics tool chests with lots of drawers..I do that TOO! I can NEVER get into the top of my tool chest.. To much junk on top of it to move...Still wish I never gave them away... I had several really old oak Post Office 'cubbies'.. I don't know what you really call them.. Just a beautiful desks with different sized boxes.. Wonderful for putting tools in... Make something like them.. Alot of work though...
I leave the top cabinet open all the time just to keep some idiot (me, actually - lol) from piling stuff there, too. The top section is where I keep all my sockets, ratchets, crescent hammers, etc. It gets dusty up there, but a quick pass with the brush attachment on my shop vac takes care of that.
Actually, I'm fairly good about keeping things picked up. It took years, but I've managed to force myself to put something away every time I go the the tool chest for something. When I get really busy though, all bets are off. Tuesday, I was finishing up a couple of cabinets for a customer for a Wednesday afternoon delivery. By the end of the day, I had stuff piled everywhere!! Wednesday morning, I went into a two hour cleaning frenzy so I could spray the finish. Gotta love that water based polyurethane and this warm California sun. Sprayed the first coat around 7:00 am and the third and last coat at 10:30. Put everything back together and loaded on the truck by 2:00 and delivered them at 3:00.
Norm had one to hang on the wall and hold hand tools. You and see it here.
The interior would have to meet your exact needs based on what tools you will be storing
Have you ever seen the episode that showed how Norm made this wall tool cabinet. The first 5 minutes or so, he showed you a wall tool cabinet that took years to build by a piano maker. There wasn't a square inch of wasted space and it was so heavy that it took 2 men to hoist it up onto a wall and a 3rd person to secure it. It was facinating to watch.

this is not a plan to make a tool cabinet, but it shouldn't be too hard to go off of the photos and text to do your own version. i don't know how to make a hyperlink, so just copy and paste:

it is just some guy's personal web site, but he has some nice hand tools and a very nice tool cabinet and workbench featured.
Thanks for posting that website. Lots of fun stuff there to make and his article on building benches is fantastic!
