Hi:
I need to change the knives on my jointer/planer with Teresa cutter. The INca guy told me he’ d never seen anyone with the tool for spreading the slot for removal. He suggested using a piece of brass in its place.
Any suggestions on this method or others? Thanks.

I use a small block of wood -- about 1/4" thick, maybe 1" X 3".
Position the 1" end on the holder (just behind the blade), and give it a light tap with a hammer. Bingo -- but sometimes it takes one more tap on the other end of the holder.

Thanks!
Hi Bake Sale,
I use a decidedly low tech solution for removing the Tersa knives from my Minimax FS41, a piece of red cedar shim shingle with about the skinniest 1.5 inches removed and a dead blow hammer.
The skinny end of the single fits over the wedge and a light blow from the dead blow on the end of the single (the fat end) disengages the wedge, since the knives on this machine are 16 inches long, 4 or 5 taps up and down the length of the wedges does the job. I can change 3 knives in 3 minutes flat, without even working up a sweat, I am spoiled forever!
I think Martin USA does sell a sell a plastic Tersa removal key, check out this link http://www.martin-usa.com/t_tersa.asp
Best of luck.
thanks. I can see that I was worried for no reason. No one appraently uses a tool.
