Hello Fellow Woodworkers,
Today I purchased a a 10 piece freud chisel set and a freud smooth plane. I paid a hundred dollars. I was wondering if I got a deal. I know that you can get the freud chisel set for about a $120 however, I have no idea what the smooth plane cost. Does anyone know?
Thanks,
Kendall

Freud? Really?
I never knew that Freud has a line of chisels or planes. Is this the same Frued that makes routers and router bits? If it is, I'd guess they aren't worth much.
Freud routers IMHO are the pits, made in Spain. I'll get some die hard flack for this, But ! I put the Freud saw blades a few notches above Forrest. And their Chisels and Router bits arn't to shabby either. Visit one of Freuds mobile show trucks some time and watch their video on their history and manufacturing process ! Way beyond impressive, as to the technology used in their manufacturing processes, especially the process they use in their saw blades.
Okay deal
One of the old Freud wood planes? You got a decent deal as long as the plane and chisels are useable. New boxed set of the chisels is on eBay now bid to $56.
I know that the plane and chisels are about 15 years old but never used. I tested the chisels yesterday and they work really well however I am going to have to tune the plane. It is a horn wood plane but I think it will make a great shooter once it is tuned.
My eclectic assortment of chisles includes one Frued, about 1 - 1/4". It's a user!
Enjoy your new chisels, Bret
