Can anyone suggest a first-rate tool sharpening service in central New Jersey? The knives for my 6-in jointer need sharpening, and I can’t do it myself. I’ve had them sharpened twice by a pickup service at a local lumber yard, but they did not get the edges straight. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Diksne

Look in the yellow pages under sharpening and see who is listed. Also call a few local cabinet shops and see who they use.
I agree with RickL on this one. Sharpening services that don't do a good job won't sharpen for commercial cabinet shops (at least for long). I like my shops to be local to reduce turnaround time. Fortunately, I have a great local sharpener who does all my sharpening except for the Forrest blade which I return to Forrest for sharpening.

Diksne, I had a few 10" saw blades, joiner knives and chisels sharpened by
Bull Sharpening Service, Inc.
6332 W. Roosevelt Rd.
Oak Park, Illinois 60304

I found them on the internet. They treated me very well, they actually sent me my
blades back before I paid for them so they had the exact S&H. I'll use this service again.
Ballew Saw & Tool, Springfield MO. Been using them for over 20 years now and they have always doone good by me. Ballewsaw.com
I think you have what is probably one of the best sharpening services in the country right there in NJ -- Forrest Saw blades.
I know they do saw blades and router bits, and I would imagine jointer blades as well.
If you can't find them in the phone book or on the web, let me know and I will get you a number.

Diksne,
I live in central NJ and have taken my saw blades to King Saw in Oakhurst Twp, Monmouth Cty, 732 531-0055. Call and see if they will do your jointer blades. Also, if you only own one set of knives you might consider purchasing another set. That way you can keep using your jointer while the old blades are being sharpened.

that sharpening service will put a back bevel on the jointer knives?? thanks al.." Feed the good wolf....."
