Top Attachment, “Side Table from a Single Board”
In the videos, I believe Mike says he attached the top by gluing the front edge to the base, and screwing the back edge through elongated holes in the kickers. This doesn’t seem to play with the fact that the underside of the top gets finish, and also is a technique I have not seen elsewhere. (Maybe I’ve misunderstood something.) Has anyone done it differently? Maybe clips to the back apron and front rail with room for movement? I’ve really enjoyed this project and learned a lot from the videos – I recommend it highly.

Post the link to the video and approximate time stamp of the point you're talking about.
Épisode 6 at 9 minutes, I would have used 3/4 inch masking tape over the area of the underside of the top that is to be glued before applying the sealcoat. Otherwise it’s an excellent top assembly, just don’t over tighten the screws.
3230: I had the same question. Didnt catch the issue until I was affixing the top. My sealer was a thin coat of 1#shellac. A bit of sanding gave me a clean surface for the front side glue.
Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll just mask the glue area on the underside of the top before finishing.
