I have a good quality hvlp compressed air gun but would like a touch up gun for small detail work. Has anyone tried the very nice looking, but very low priced Campbell Hausfield touch up gun or something similar?

Yes. It's silly - you go spend all the dough it takes to get a good DeVilbiss or Binks or . . . and then the one time you need a touchup gun for ten minutes you just say aw, what the heck, I know I'll regret it later, but you buy the cheapo anyways. I've had it for several years, and it works fine. I've used it for oil paint, lacquer, and most frequently shellac. And the seals don't seem to get destroyed on this one anywhere near as fast as the bigger guns I have. No explanation why there.
I use the Devilbiss touch up gun (vacuum feed) purchased at Lowe's for $29 mainly for shooting lacqer and sometimes shellac. Really does a good job and the price is certainly right. I sometimes leave lacquer in the can for weeks. Had one plug up once on me but soaking in lacquer thinner made it like new. Never have had problems with the 'O' rings or seals. I've purchased 3 over the last 15 years. I backed over one with the pickup, and dropped another on the concrete floor and broke the handle. Been using this one now for 2 years.
I would not use this gun for areas over about 4 square feet because it's volume is just not sufficient for the larger jobs.
