I’ve run into a problem with glueing up a small 4″ tall drawer. After dying, staining and finishing the drawer front that was already dovetailed for the drawer sides, I realized that I had accidentally gotten some danish oil into the pins. Not completely covering all the pins, but I would say 50%. Is there a glue that would work over the oil? I would like to be able to not have to build a new front and subsequently new sides to fit. Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot,
Greg Alexander

Hi Greg,
I don’t know of a glue that works over oil. You could try to let the joint dry out as much as possible and then use an epoxy, but no guarantees on it holding in the oily spots. You could try wiping out the surfaces with naptha or thinner, again no guarantees.
I think the easiest and most restful sleep solution is to slice away the contaminated surfaces and reglue on some wood. Keep the cuts very small, glue on scrap wood from this same project so wood grain and color match, and recut the pins. Good luck. Gary
