I would like to know if there is a good way to take a picture and transfer it to a wooden plaque. I have tried to do the iron on transfer similar to the method used to transfer to a T shirt, but the color melted on the wood. I would like to have some of the grain show through the picture. any ideas

I have a friend who does laser engraving; he can take virtually any image, digitize it, and laser engrave it onto wood. I've seen him do signs, insignias, photographs, letterings - the whole 9 yards. Might be an option for you, too.
