I recently got an old piano (100+ years old).
It turned out to be useless as a musical instrument.
Now I’m looking for ideas and ways to make a piece of furniture out of it, both from the exterior and interior.
I thought about a writing desk or a bar.
Any other ideas or plans?
Thanks.

Sometimes they're not reasonably repairable. You can listen to people ask "does it work" for about 6 years. Then try another couple years to find a new home for it. Then use it as a piece of wierd furniture for a while. Eventually you figure out that they do burn pretty well. All except the big metal parts.
I wanted a piano and was given one that was described as "unrepairable" and "a waste of time" by the local tuner,
Given that, I had no compunction about then investing in some piano tuning tools to try this out myself.
Took me two years, but the piano did get tuned (who knows if it stayed in tune).....I had fun learning the basics of a new skill without the risk of destroying a piano, got some additional tools of considerabile wierdness, had fun and learned a bunch in the process.....
What's a piece of furniture gonna teach ya?
If the guts are there, you can go to

for tools books parts etc.
who knows, you might find it fun to try.

Eric,
Thanks.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to enter the internet site you posted me.
I'll try searching the web some more.
A headboard. Very nice bar. Stereo cabinet. Sorry brains not working well right now. Time for a single malt. Peter
Peter,
Thanks.
Did you get your malt after all?
Macallan 18 year old. Very good thanks.
Hmmm.... A Piano Bar seems like it would be the obvious choice. And someone makes a device that will hook up to most old pianos to convert them into electronic (MIDI) pianos. You'll need to install an amp and some speakers, but if it's good for nothing else, then why not.
Upright, console or grand? What style is your piano?
Dave B.
Dave,
Thanks for your advise.
Adding an electronic piano would be a good idea.
The piano is an upright British made one, late 19th century.
I'll ask the piano tuner.
Look for Yamaha brand, as I think that's who makes the midi adapter for pianos.

Instead of furniture per se, why not take out the internals and make it a fridge.
Or a china hutch.
