I want to take some rough sawn lumber from PA to TX as airline luggage. l’ll be able to take four bundles that are 48″x6″x6″.
My problem is this: how do I secure them so the bundles don’t come apart during baggage handling?
I’ve thought about banding, but I would have to rent the tool, (it might not be available in rural PA), and it would damage the edges of some of the boards. What about that heavy duty plastic wrap in which equipment is sometimes wrapped?
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Just wrap with thick cardboard, did this with some lumber i took to the UK.
Did you have any trouble with customs i.e. because of possible transport of insects.
This end all I got was a strange look and going into the UK, customs never even woke up!
I would wrap with cardboard, then duct tape or packing tape. I would probably put two layers of cardboard on the ends for extra protection.
And, as I recall, don't go over the 50 lb weight limit.

nhg, I would tightly wrap the wood with lots of that 3"saran wrap on a roll (LV sells it) in both directions and then use Alan's cardboard with filament package tape in both directions-lots of it. Paddy.
NHG,
Whatever you do to secure the lumber, be aware that the airline security will more than likely open the package to check the contents. The saran wrap, banding, etc is a good idea for shipping, but not for transporting on an airline. Keep it easy to open and reclose with airport security tape, cause that's what's gonna happen to it.
Good Luck,
Lee
How about some long (they have very long ones) nylon ties?Drew
