I moved to Arizona several years ago. My family is from Minnesota. My family has large amounts of home sawn lumber in storage in MN. I would like to bring a load to AZ. What is the best way to transport wood between different climates (temp. and moisture levels)? I don’t want to ruin wood by abrupt climatic changes.
FYI : Much of this wood has been drying for years, if not decades.
Any advice is welcomed!

Jim,
I don't know the technical answers to your question, although I would just pack it up and move it, no different than air drying ... But, if you are going to have it shipped (as opposed to renting a truck or transporting yourself somehow) then I highly recommend trying to find a way to establish an account with a trucking company as it will reduce your price hugely. While talking with a regional exec at one of the largest trucking companies, he told that due to a variety of reasons logical only to trucking companies, the price if someone just calls might be $1,700 where if they had an "account" (with no minimums) the cost might be only $250 or so.
I brought cherry that had been airdrying in the south for about 3 years to Pennsylvania with no problems at all. I realize that depending on the part of Arizona you are talking about, it could be drier than Arkansas.
It will be interesting to see what the folks with more knowledge say.

If you moved it in the winter, it would probably pick up a little moisture. I don't see a problem.
