Hello,
I am a very devoted amateur woodworker hobbiest especially when I get to use my hand tools to create a special piece. However, I am faced with a dilemma. I am planning to move abroad for my job in about six months and I would like to take my tools with me. This means that I have leave my power tools behind and develop some means of transporting my full range of hand tools. I was wondering if anyone knew the best way to transport my hand planes, chisels, saws, sharpening supplies, etc. Would a custom designed wood tool chest be the most sturdy or would a regular piece of cloth luggage be more appropiate? I am open to any suggestions but my main considerations are the weight, ease of carrying, and a safe space for my tools. Thanks in advance for your help.

London,
A wooden case with the tools wrapped in paper would be good. Pelican cases are strong but are expensive. I would call the airline first to see what their requirements are for luggage (dimensions, weight). Also ask them about insurance in case the tools are lost. You can also have Fedex transport the tools in a protective case and pay for an appropriate amount of insurance.
