I’ve seen plenty of trees being felled. But the neighbors had two silver maples taken down yesterday. They were both probably 75 years old, and two feet in diameter at waist level.
A big honking crane was attached at the midway point, and a single cut made down low. They lifted the whole tree straight up in the air, and swung it over to the chipper.
The entire time the tree was upright in the air, sap was pouring out the bottom. It wasn’t trickling, it was like a faucet got turned on. I guess because it’s maple sugaring time here that there was so much. But I’d never imagined this kind of flow.
Trees are crazy.

Wow. Wish I could've seen that. Sounds pretty amazing.
Awesome story. I've never seen a tree handled that way.
The chipper had a big claw arm, and the operator sat above it. The whole thing went into the chipper. They didn't remove a single branch first. An entire tree, 24" trunk first, fed into the grinder. Just amazing. And scary. And sad.
That's insane.
