Does tung oil have a shelf life? I hate to get rid of something that is still in good condition but on the other hand I don’t want to risk any problems on my project just for the sake of saving a few $’s worth of oil.

Glenn, I have used tung oil for finishing various wooden items for twenty five years and have never had a problem with it "going bad". What I normally keep on hand is pure tung oil with no dryers. If you use a tung oil with dryers it may thicken or harden over a period of time. Tung oil dries by oxidation, so keep a tight lid on your container and you should be in good shape for a long time. I have the remains of a quart can that I have had for six or seven years with no problems.
*Thanks Drew. I also have a can that's about 6 (?) years old that I still use. I haven't had any problems but I was wondering.
*I second Drew's response. When mixing pure tung oil for a final finish -- I usually use a mix of 1 part raw linseed, 3 parts tung, 11.5 parts turps, 0.5 parts Japan drier -- I mix basically what I'll need for a project, although I've had the mixture hold up well in glass containers for six months or so before it's used up on smaller projects.LWJ
*We are putting up pine paneling in the ceiling. What is the best finish to give a whitish look and reduce yellowing? Can water-based varnish allow mould growth in the bathroom? I am also considering a white waterbased stain containing linseed and Chinese wood oil. Any comments from anyone?
