I have a set of Carter Axe turning tools. Are the replacement carbide tips universal fit or do I have to stick with name brand?

just measure carefully and order appropriately sizes. I have bought some random cheap replacement tips and they have been fine.
Generally in mm. Shape and original supplier can influence this. I tried a few 14.2mm squares and found that the outer taper from base to face was also critical to fitting the seat.
Many turning tools with carbide insert tips are proprietary, but some are interchangeable. To be on the safe side, you may just have to go with Axe inserts unless they indicate that the inserts match another brand or are equipped from the start with another brand like Hunter Tools (as an example).
