Turning irregular pieces
Hello everyone! I want to cut a tenon on both ends of an irregular piece of Locust on the lathe. Diameter roughly 2″ X 26″ length. This is a seasoned branch and extremely strong. I’m building chairs. I have not tried yet as I realize this is dangerous. Low speed #1, Also thinking of counter-balance ( slow process ) and had someone tell me perhaps a jig. If you have any idea please run it past me. My drill motor type tenon cutter is great but impossible to make both ends on same axis. Crazy John

Mount a router onto the bed of the lathe
If you were to mount a router on the lathe at the tailstock, the router bit could then be fed into the work on the lathe using the router's bit height adjustment as the work piece mounted between centers is turned by hand. Probably best to unplug the lathe before doing this. A spring pole or treddle lathe would be ideal for this. The router will have to be repositioned along the length of the bed to increase the length of the tenon if the tenon's length must be longer than the diameter of the router bit. Purist lathe turners will, I'm sure, cringe at the thought of doing it this way.
Hey woodhacker... got your message and thanks! I'll be messing with your advise! good idea! thanks!! Crazy John
Mount it on the lathe
Set it on low speed, stand aside and turn it on.....
You might want to wear a full face shield if all goes well.
Hey Rob... Yeh, something has to work... It's a dousey I know! Nothing is impossible, just gotta figure it out!! Thanks!
Progress report???
