Hi Greendrake,
I've seen a variety of turning projects that incorporate plywood, particularly segmented turned bowls and vessels. The best I've seen use Baltic Birch plywood because the plys are consistent and without voids. You might have to sharpen your tools more often, however...
I have to ask if the blocks are Baltic Birch, and also they are dyed. I have Baltic Birch I could glue them myself and stain them later. Thanks for the info
I didn't realize they were dyed. In that case, you might be looking at colorwood, which is a commercial product sold through wood turning catalogs. Often times people use it to turn pens.
Check out this stuff and this stuff sold though craft supplies usa, one of the bigger catalog dealers.

Hi Matt
Thanks again I sent for their catalog. The place I saw these blocks is called MLCS they are outside of Phila. PA They sell mostly router bits and everything to go with them. http://www.mlcswoodworking.com thanks Rick
I've turned lots of baltic birch ply bowls and trays. Minimal waste if you plan your cuts and laminations. It is tough on tools though. However it really looks good.
Hi Thanks for the info I have some baltic birch ply, I want to turn barbells.
Rick
