Hi all,
I’ve found this forum in my attempt to find some info online. I’m in the process of designing a cabinet that will house records, a turntable, DVD/CD player, tuner and a mini-disc. Seems to me that in the days when records were king there was hardware to cushion vibration from the turntable. Anyone remember that? Should I be concerned? Where might I find such hardware? What else could I use? Anyone remember dimensions required? (Don’t own the turntable yet.. will buy it when this project is complete.)
Meanwhile, yes, I’m absorbing the lessons of last months article on designing an entertainment center. (The TV is in an entirely different location.)
THanks for the help.

Good turntables had suspension systems that isolated the turntable from vibrations in the cabinet.
I remember the old vibration damping system well, I have one.
The primary part is some type of laminated material, both top and bottom are a Formica type material. Don't know for sure what's in
the layers, but it weighs a ton.
The legs are large springs (about 3 or 4 inches in diameter) with ####piece of foam rubber to dampen vibration inside them.
Once sitting on a table with the turntable on top, it really doesn't
move much.
Hope that helps. I don't think anyone makes them anymore.
Jeff
