Okay, I’ve had it. I’ve seen enough dove-tailed, mortised & tennoned, inlaid, brass-chased, french-polished maple and wenge workbenches to last me for a long time. Heck, I’ve seen benches that I’d put in my living room and use for a sideboard, and get real distrubed if somebody set a beer down without a coaster. I’d like to see some benches that are useful, used, and….ugly, like mine. No shame here. Let’s see’em, and have a little bio too.
This bench is twenty-two years old, the top is two pieces of 3/4″ ply, the base is lammed 2X4’s. The “patinized finish,” (superior sniff) is oil based varnish, and many years of mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, paints, lacquers, poly’s, and uncounted cab and furniture parts being fashioned on it. Laid a piece of 1/2″ MDF on it , and built/rebuilt many a carb, chain-saw, hydralic cylinder, rifle, RC car, and vacuum cleaner on it.
Things could get real ugly….
It’s woodworking…not rocket surgery!

I hope you don't put a beer without a coaster on that nice router table cabinet!
The bench has 'character'

The cab top is MDF. The table is HPL. How's the shop cooling project coming? Post a pic of your bench if you have the time. We gotta get equal time...It's woodworking...not rocket surgery!
Nice! That looks like what I want to build and for the same reasons.
How about some pics of the rest of your shop?
