   I haven't found any how/why books on ukes. There are some on guitar making that dive into bracing patterns and why–the physics of it all–but they're crazy expensive. Hundreds of dollars to get started. I'll pull the trigger one of these days.

   In my experience making four ukes–three of which were random/custom designs–I wish I had started making a few exactly from a plan. In face, one that I made is mostly from a plan. The next one or two will be exactly to the plan so I can focus on fit and finish.

   The book I have is the one by Bill Plant, it lacks details in alot of places. I built the starter project he calls the "boxter" and it came out well enough. His next step is not much beyond that so I'm going off-book to a large degree.

   I suppose I'll reinvent the wheel and cobble something together from photos and maybe some of the Stewmac videos. Do you using the same size bracing on the back and soundboard? What HxW?

   That all depends on what size uke you are making. I have baritone and tenor plans on hand and can give you dimensions. Also, stew mac's kits have bracing patterns with them. You can get the pdf on their website.

   The book is for a soprano-size. I found the PDFs, thanks. Dimensions for the bracing would help. Have you left bandsaw marks on the insides of any of your builds? If so, does it affect the sound?

   The tenor plan I have has the braces at 4mm X 6mm for the top and 6mm X 8mm for the back. I don't have a soprano plane around.
