Just got notified that I won the weekly drawing for the Ultimate Woodworker. There are 20 weekly drawings and then one grand prize. For the weekly winner you get your choice of one of two power tools (a porter-cable router or a delta mini-lathe) and a complete Woodworking Library from Fine Woodworking/Taunton Press. Looks like there are a lot of books in the library. Grand prize is a lot of tools, trip to Yankee Workshop, and a week at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking. Wouldn’t that be great?

Wow, cool! Which tool did you choose? It's nice to know someone wins these things, LOL.

Since I have 3 routers, I took the mini lathe. Never used one, but should be fun to play with. With the woodworking show here in Denver next weekend, guess I'll have to buy some turning tools.
You didn't say where this contest entry was.JigSawJohn
"...guess I'll have to buy some turning tools. " Awwwww, poor baby, forced to buy more tools. ROFL. A friend of mine who's had a mini-lathe for awhile just bought a new, bigger, lathe. So....I might get to borrow the mini for awhile, decide whether or not to buy it.
Have fun! Hope you win the big one too!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Forestgirl, I posted several months ago about a brand new shelf pin centering bit that was causing tearout in oak plywood and you were the only person who told me to replace the bit. Well anyway I tried several other ideas but only got good results when I replaced the bit, thanks for the suggestion. The problem was that the bit was recessed too deep in the steel centering jig and when I started drilling, the bit would ever so slightly catch the edge of the jig and in no time flat the bit was dull and tearout starting occuring after a few holes.
Thanks and keep up the insight
Clark
Hi, Clark -- hmmmmmm, wish I could take credit, but don't think I can! I've read through the responses just now -- wow, glad you didn't have to go the "boring machine" route. I think Nikkiwood was your rescuer on that one.
I'm going to suggest that you go back to that thread and post your description of what the problem turned out to be! That will be important for someone down the line, I'll bet. Just go to this link and edit your original post!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
