I made some mahogany tables and placed a bowl on top of it. Where the bowl was is now darker than the surrounding area. Any way to avoid this with a different finish? Wax? I used lacquer. Is there anything i can do to correct this other than stripping and refinishing?

It's the wood. Finish won't matter. Take the bowl off, and the color will even out.
UV exposure over time makes some light woods darker and some dark woods lighter. No way to stop it short of paint or dark storage. As JC2 says, it will even out over time.
