In 1995 I purchased a Delta cabinet saw. (Delta Unisaw). It’s great. But about 5 years later I discovered that all the Unisaw picture pictures I saw, had a cover on the right side covering the projecting motor. (It’s a right tilt saw). I failed to get a cover… either got screwed up and not shipped or wasn’t aware I could have ordered one as an option. Anyway….
Now I’m thinking I can / should / want to build my own motor cover to completely cover this huge hole in the right side of the cabinet to aid in dust collection, or at least dust containment.
Does anyone have a Unisaw with a motor cover? Is it vented? Or is the motor cooled by the air within the cabinet?
Thanks for your reply(s).

rw, just been there last summer, call Delta parts and make sure you talk to a Unisaw tech FIRST as some new (black & decker) order takers don't know. I picked up a 1985 very low milage right tilt that I cleaned and lubricated to factory new spec. The order taker sent me a poly cover(IIRC $60) , it's a no fit without my creative efforts- it went back. The tech sends me a sheet metal cover with hinge-hoorah($135) and thinks that he only has 4 left. I understand that one of the second market Unisaw guys bought most of the inventory of tin covers so ya have to look around if Delta says that they are all gone.
You CAN use the poly if you are handy-it may be the correct spec for your saw, talk to a tech, if the others are now at a stupid price. Best of luck, Paddy
eBay. Current bid price is $49.95.

On my General I hot melt glued a rubbermaid plastic laundry box over the motor and have had no problems. The sides widen towards the cabinet and once t6he sawdust gets a couple of inches deep it slides into the cabinet. Two others of our saws regularly get sawdust packed up to the motors(no dust collection on them) and still don't shut down due to overheating.I feel you have nothing to worry about
