Good morning Jay. Here is my two cents worth. If in ideal condition, the starting point should be about half the price of a similar unit that is brand new. Then add or subtract from there, based on condition, amount of use, extra or missing parts (including manuals). Maximum I would pay for it is 65 percent of a new one.
That sounds like a good formula. The saw is not in ideal condition. It is missing the motor cover, has rust on the threads of the arbor, meaning there will be rust in other loctions as well and it is a little older style saw (dust collection is a little better on newer saws). I am kind of in a hurry to get a saw for a job I am doing and my $$$ is alittle short. Thought a low price, smaller saw might fit the bill my but my gut is telling me otherwise. Might just go and strap myself with that new Powermatic 66. In the long run it's the right choice, left tilt ( I highly prefer that arrangement), 50" rails with two cast iron wings, and both saws, new or old will need at least a half day set up (more for the older saw). Factor that into the overall cost and the new saw wins. Thanks all! JP
Offer him $600 for the Unisaw. If he doesn't bite buy the left tilt saw you want. I bought one a couple years ago and I'm very happy with it. Best saw I've ever had. Good luck.
Hi Jay ,
You did not mention the HP of the unisaw , or how much the new PM 66 will cost you . I would agree about 1/2 of the going price as a guide line for most used woodworking equipment . $650.00 to $850.00 is usually what they sell for at auctions and such , depending on condition and HP and fence and demand .

In my first post I did mention that it was a 3HP Unisaw. The guy sold it on Ebay for $1125. It had a starting bid of $800. I didn't think he could sell for that even. NOt worth it in my opinion when a new machine (same features) can be had for around $1500. Another $375 and you have 5 year warranty and don't have to spend the day cleaning all the rust off it. Powermatic is around $2200 with the 50" rails and 3HP. Comparable unisaw sells for around $1800.
