We’re UK woodworkers visiting the USA this autumn, staying with friends in NY close to the Catskills. We’re especially interested in furniture and decorative arts from the Arts and Crafts period, and onwards. What museums/galleries in NY state, or close, should we be sure to visit? All advice gratefully received!

It may not be obvious, but you can spend some great hours in the furniture exhibitions of the Metropolitan Museum in NYC. They have quite a lot of stuff from different periods. But do not miss - the entire room by Frank Lloyd Wright. Also a number of Nakashima pieces in the Japanese wing (not with the rest of the furniture). Enjoy,

Give this guy a call. He sells arts and crafts furniture and antiques and my bet is he'll know where all the bodies are buried.

Regard it as just as desirable to build a chicken house as to build a cathedral.
