Update to Board Ft. Calculator for Excel
i’ve had quite a few requests to add a bd. ft. cost to the ms excel board ft. calculator program i made a few months ago.
so, i’ve added a field to allow entry of the bd. ft. cost for each board entered plus the overall total. to view or download this free program, click the link below:

Gee, and by happy coincidence, your website gets another link!

OK, I'll spell it out. A lot of folks try to get their website included in as many pages (which includes forums) as possible in the hopes of getting a higher rating from search engines.
Pete
hey pete, you're absolutely kidding right?? if not, then you are, in my humble opinion, way off the base - way, way out there!!
search engine ratings? give me a break! if that was an issue for me there are dozens of better and easier ways to increase search ratings than creating excel spreadsheets, offering them for free and putting a link on a message forum - good grief!!
i never even realized that you reported this as a violation until the other poster mentioned it. i can't wait to hear what the sysop says about this. it just might eliminate all posting of projects pics that link to other sites - don't ya think??
the spreadsheet i created for calculating board ft. has been downloaded, for free, over 300 times and is apparently, much appreciated by woodworkers who had as difficult a time as i did in remembering the formula. that is precisely why i thought others might find this utility useful. as i said earlier, a few suggested an improvement to add the cost as well - it just took a few minutes so i did it.
my only suggestion is just 'chill out'!Rick in Cowichan Bay, B.C. - 50km north of Victoria, B.C.

Nah, it's so common it's got its own term. See:

Like a lot of internet things, there's no clear line that can separate link spam from legitimate use. If your post was truly well-intentioned, so be it.

Pete,
Thanks for your concern about a possible misuse of the Knots forum. We appreciate your vigilance. However, we checked into the link provided in this thread and it isn't a solicitation, only a helpful calculator. Additionally, many Knots users sign their name with a URL in their signature.
Thanks for your participation,

Pete, I don't know about the other forums you may browse, but FWW Knots does not get their collective Knickers in a Bunch when someone posts a link to their woodworking web site. There are other forums around that get waaaayyyy too bent about this, IMHO, in the sense that they are so incredibly rigid in their policy -- zero tolerance if you will -- that the value of an internet forum is diminished considerably.

FG -
Check the profile. I've been around for a while.
I recommend that we all drop this thread now and get back to making sawdust. I'm not advocating any policy or action, that's for sysop to decide. The intent of my original post was "hey sysop, eyeball this", but it's turning into a digression with more energy than is warranted.
Pete
pete,
sure, let's just move on! that's after you've made unfounded accusations, insulted my integrity, then when the sysop tells you you're wrong - just pretend that someone else started all this and ask why are we wasting our time discussing this?? no apology, no admission of being mistaken - nothing at all!!
pretty amazing stuff!! and, don't bother with the 'i didn't accuse anybody of anything' excuse - the posts here are pretty clear for everyone to see.Rick in Cowichan Bay, B.C. - 50km north of Victoria, B.C.

It was a cheap shot, Pete. If you want sysop to "eyeball" something that you're not sure about, you can drop them a discreet email rather than snipe with that "caughtcha" tone.

Don't know what's going on in Pete's mind but thanks for the calculator.
First time I've ever seen someone notify sysop for a link to something people would fine useful. A board calculator is not what I would call spam.
