Use for 2″ capacity in a pin nailer?
I’m thinking of purchasing a pin nailer for attaching mouldings to cabinets. I’m sure I’ll find additional uses for it too. A lot of companies have come out with 2″ capacity models for extra $$$. Tools of the Trade reviewed pin nailers in 2007 and said that 2″ long pins may curl back through hardwoods but FWW and other magazines have praised the recent availability of 2″ capacity pin nailers. Maybe I’m missing something but when would a woodworker ever have a need for 2″ long pins? – Lyptus

I have the bostitch 23 gauge - it takes up to 1-3/16ths and I've never used that large size pin although I bought a package of every size when I bought the gun.

I use 2" pins frequently to install casing, baseboard and etc.. When you have to go through drywall before hitting the stud it's nice to have the extra length without leaving a large nail hole. I switch to a shorter pin when fastening casing directly to the door jamb or window liner to try to avoid a "shiner".
clarification: I was talking about 18 ga. pins not 23 ga. not sure if anybody makes a gun that shoots 2" 23 ga.
