Used and somewhat old Beisemeyer fence
There is an old 42″ commercial Beis fence system for sale. 50″ cut
I want to know what special and loose hardware items I should be lookng for.
I suppose the attachment of both of the angle front and rear rails are by common nuts and bolts. Am I right?
How is the rectangular tube attached to the front angle rail? Is it also by common nuts and bolts or are there special fasteners that I cannot get from Home Depot?
Does this fence system last a long time?
Any tips as to what especially to look for in an old Beis fence system?

I have had mine 20 years installed on two different saws. The rail attaches to the angle iron with common sheet metal screws and the bolts to attach the angle iron to the saw and extension table are common hardware items. You can easily drill and tap the holes in saw top since the metal is soft or drill and use nuts to secure the angle iron.
I would check the flatness of the fence face and make sure it has the two adjusting set screws. In either case, they are easily replaceable. Check the nylon pads since they do wear down.
Flat head machine screws to attach rails to the table. Regular bolts to attach the tube to the angle iron brackets. The fence is as tough as it get for fences. The cursor is the most fragile piece. I've done service work on machines and been to trade schools where unifences were trashed but the Bies fared quite well. Support your local hardware stores before HD in my opinion.
Years ago I felt the same way, that the unifence is nice but won't last as long as the Beis.
It is also more difficult to attach jigs onto the unifence, IMO.

The only moving part is the cam lever lock . These often show signs of wear . Check to make sure the lock works and that the fence itself is flat and straight . The rail closest to the operator is really the only one that is important , depending on what type of table your saw is mounted in .The other rail only supports the weight of the end of the fence , and does not keep the fence aligned nor is it needed for the use or operation of these great fences. Also the hair line indicator or cursor is a piece of plexi glass that can crack or break but can easily be replaced .
good luck dusty
