I decided several months ago that I will upgrade my lathe. I have scoured the newspapers, ebay and various print and online sources looking for a good deal. After not having any luck for several months, I came to the conclusion that in early fall I will purchase a new Powermatic for around $2500. Today however, I went to look at a 30+ year old Delta 46-450 H.D. variable speed lathe for less than $1000, in great condition, delivered to my house (at no charge) and with a 30 day money back gaurantee and it’s single phase. Now I’m torn…
Is anyone familiar with the Delta 46-450 or have any advice?

I'm not famular with the Delta, but if it has a true VS (not belts & pullies)and is in the range of 2hp, and the swing over the bed meets your needs, then I would say save yourself the $$ and go for it. I have a PM 3520a and really llike it, but to save $1500 and get performance that is close seems to be a no brainer.
