I am looking at purchasing a used Mini-Max jointer (not a combo machine). Unfortunately, I cannot find any information on the machine. Its Model F31, has a 12″x81″ table, 3hp Century motor, single phase 220. Does anyone have any experience with this machine? The owner is a professional cabinetmaker that recently purchased a used 16″. He thinks the mini max is around 10 years old. His asking price is $2,200.

I am just a hobbyist (with no kids). I know I could get by with a smaller machine – but again, no kids.

Thanks all

I would call Eric at Mini-Max tomorrow and get his opinion. It's about half the price of the F 30 Smart combo 12" jointer - planer with a 4.8 HP new..
Give him a call at 1-866-975-9663 toll free.
Good luck...

I was fortunate enough to have Eric answer the phone. Unfortunately, he did not have a lot of information on it. But it looks like I could still get parts!
I would check the motor to be sure it's not on the last leg and also all parts are in good working order. And I would definitely confirm in advance that you can still get blades for this model. Bearing, motors, pulleys and belts can be matched and subbed and the major parts are likely to last a long time. But blades are the key fast turn-over part.
Good luck with your decision...

My local sharpening shop can make planer and jointer blades, (and any other, for that matter) for any size and thickness jointer out there, and I'm pretty sure that most can also. I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Thanks for passing that on, Jeff. I can truly say I never knew nor even considered it, Jeff.

The shop I am in now has the exact machine. A shop I worked in for 7 years also had one. It is a VERY good machine. Solid, well made, it will tune up nicely. It will accept generic 12" knives, that are easy to change. This machine is also quieter than other jointers that I have used for some reason. Both look identical to the one in your pics and are of late 1980's vintage. As to price, sorry no help there......
