Is there a website to find the value of used woodworking equipment? Or a way to determine the value of used equipment?
I found a Laguna band saw that I am interested in. It is the Laguna LT16 3000 Series. The owner is asking 1800. I found a new one on Amazon for 1895 plus shipping. What do you think the value of the used one should be (range).
Thank yout

Used equipment value
I have a general rule when buying used machinery, especially if it is still in production. I use my retail cost and divide it by two. This is my starting point. I usually deduct from this starting point for wear, cost of replacing missing parts, manufacturer no longer offering support, no manual, and so forth. Sometimes I add to the starting point, like if the machine retains a high resale value (some Festool, for example), was specially well kept, include a bunch of accessories, or the current new version lack some feature from the used one, like the old one is US made, the new one not. I realize these factors can be pretty subjective, so use your best judgement.
To apply my general rule to the Laguna, I would take the $1895 retail price plus tax and shipping, if any, and divide by two. Lets say the grand total is $2300 so half is $1150. I would use that as a starting point. This seems about right in my area at least. In fact a quick search on Craigslist found a Laguna 16" going for $900. Unless it comes with a whole mess of accessories and bIades, I think $1800 used is too high since you can get $1895 new. European machinery tend to have higher resale value, but not that high.
In my case, since I live within driving distance of Laguna, my retail cost is less than $2100. That makes my starting point just above $1000. Then, the Craigslist comparable drops it to $900. Your cost might be higher, but I believe a reasonable price range would be $900-$1200.
Thanks
Bought it for 1100. Came with a fence, an extension table, and 5 blades one which is a carbide re saw blade.
Thanks for the info, will use that in the future.
