I have the opportunity to buy a used (approx. 5-6 year old) Ulmia workbench that up to now has been used in a classroom setting. I think it may be a Master Carver Bench that is no longer made. It is 6 ft. long and 24 in wide with a full width end vise, a front vise and 2 full rows of square dog holes including 6 dogs. No tray. It appears to be in reasonable shape. I was told the original price was roughly $1500. What should I look for in the bench and what would be a fair price? Thanks!

If the vises work and the top isn't cut to heck it's likely to be a great bench. Benches like that should last for decades, perhaps with an occasional flattening of the top. Ulmia had the reputation for being the best.
If you can get it for a grand, take it. If you can get it for less (and you may, after all it is "used") its legalised thievery.
And if you don't want it, I'll buy the thing.
Of course, what we all really want is a 12 ft copy of the Hancock bench. Dreams.

FWIW, my initial thought was in the $600-$800 range, depending on condition.
