using 1/8 shank bits on a router
What is the most effective and practical means of using 1/8 shank bits on a 1/4 or 1/2 inch collet router?
I need to route multiple parallel very fine line on solid wood, likely just 1/32 inch wide; rather shallow cut, just 1/32 or 1/16 deep. I will use a pattern and a template guide.
I am thinking about using a very pointed 1/8 diamond bit. There are 1/4 inch shank diamond bits but I have not seen one pointed enough.

I'm not sure if anyone makes an adapter, but it would scare me to try it. Bits that small are made for Dremels.
You can probably get an adapater from 1/8” shaft to a 1/4” collet. Doubt you would find one for a 1/2” collet. I would avoid using a diamond style bit in wood, I think it would clog very easily and would be frustrating to use. I suggest using a spiral cut router bit that would remove material (wood) much more quickly and likely more cleanly than a diamond bit. You can easily find spiral cut router bits for 1/4” shanks/collets that have a very small cutting diameters (1/32” in your case). For the cleanest cut possible, look for a spiral down cut bit and not an uncut bit (basically how the spiral is oriented). Downcut bits are better for cleaner cuts, up cut bits cut faster. Hope that helps.
