Can anyone suggest the right gloves to wear when using an edge sander (6″ x 89″). I have painfully sanded my knuckles and the end of several fingers and would like to find some gloves that would provide some degree of safety and some dexterity.
Someone suggested gloves with kevlar but I read somewhere that kevlar is effective against knife cuts but not against abrasives.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I've been using edge sanders and such for 35 years and had a few scuffs in the beginning. I'd perfect my technique intead of trying gloves to prevent getting sanded fingers. At the risk of getting a glove caught and really getting hurt I think you should re-evaluate your technique. Gloves, long sleeves, etc are not recommended around machines and for good reason. I've seen the results of such unsafe practices and it's a gruesome sight to behold.
Sounds like the pieces you are sanding are small. Consider a fixture to hold the piece to keep your hands clear of the belt.

Rick, thanks for your prompt reply. Good advice.... I am new to using the edge sander and was sanding the face of some small table aprons. I think you are right to suggest a jig to hold small parts.... my undoing was holding the aprons with my fingers so close to the moving belt.
