Hank, owing to its extreme density and fine texture, ipe doesn't glue well. There are many species of ipe (Tabebuia ) and they contain varying amounts of resins that give the surface a waxy feel and prevent most glues from achieving a mechanical bond. Unfortunately, the nicer (more darkly pigmented) ipe typically contains more of these resin/lapachol compounds. It isn't quite as big a problem as you would encounter working with the rosewoods or teak...but you don't want to rely on glue for maintaining structural integrity.
Design the project so that the joinery and fasteners can be relied on to hold it together.
