I’m planning to use Micromesh to rub out/polish shellac and I was hoping to glean some advice from someone who has done it before. Should I use a lubricant? If so, what? How long should I let the shellac harden/dry before I start polishing?

Using the abrasive dry will enable you to see what is happening more clearly.
You should give a shellac a few days to harden before polishing, but it doesn't need a month to cure like a varnish does. If you have filled pores of an open pored wood, I would give it a week more to reduce shrinkage into the pores.
Let me strongly suggest you make up a sample board with same finish schedule. Then practice and learn on the sample board, not on your project. A woodworker I know said he was quite surprised at how different using the Micro-Mesh was.
Also, be sure you have a thick enough film of your shellac. You can easily sand through because shellac finishes are so thin.
