I have been using Target’s USL water based lacquer for furniture work lately. I have a commission to make a conference room tabletop, and was wondering if this will be durable enough. Anyone had experience with this? I would be interested to hear what finish others have used for conference room tables.
Thanks in advance.

I have used ML Campbell UltraStar water-bourne lacquer sprayed-on with an HVLP system. I like this product because it builds quickly, dries quickly and is very easy to clean-up after and it looks great. Check-out the specs by following this link:

It ought to be durable enough, but probably won't be. My experience (as a user) of conference room tables is that hot coffee cups are placed, and spilled, on them, and they are written on with single sheets of paper and cheap ball point pens. Short of plate glass, I would use a good phenolic resin oil based varnish. Alternatively finish with shellac or lacquer, (both harder than varnish) and offer a service contract.
Thank you both for your suggestions. I will check into them.
I use the Target USL also. As lacquers go it is probably as good as any, however for this application you might want to use a good varnish. Target makes a waterborne varnish that I imagine you would be able to spray with your present setup. Check with Jeff at Homestead he will have all the info you need to devise a finishing system for this application.

Here's a great source of info on the Target products and their best applications, from a working pro (granted, paid for by Target, but still...). He recommends the EM8000 Conversion Varnish for the tops. I've used it and it's great stuff. It's also what Jeff Jewett recommended to me for kitchen cabinets.
