Hi,
I saw my wife putting sweaters into a heavy plastic bag that had an attachment for a vacuum cleaner hose. She turned the vacuum on and I watched the air being sucked out of the bag, compressing the bulky sweaters. When she was done, she closed the connection to the vacuum and removed. She says this vacuum lasts many months.
Has anyone heard using this set up being successfully used for a vacuum press for veneering?

No idea, but I can suggest a way to test it.
Get a pair of bathroom scales - a mechanical set is best as they are not self-zeroing. Put the scales in each type of bag and see what force is applied - this needs to be checked both once full vacuum is achieved and after 4 hours (usual clamp time for polyurethane glue)
There have been some internet reports of good results.

Interesting way to test whether it works. I'll try it and post the results.
